Remote Desktop setup on PC

Remote Desktop use must be approved by your leader / practice manager.

Please note that these steps show how to set up use for the general use Remote Desktop server. If you are a member of Patient Services or Billing and Collections, you will have been assigned a specific VM. You can follow these steps, but make sure to use the Computer IP you were given.

If you are not connected to the work network, you will need to sign into the VPN before you can access the Remote Desktop.

Setup steps
Open the Remote Desktop Connection application.

If you do not have a shortcut on your desktop you can find it under the Windows Accessories folder on the start menu



Next to Computer type 192.168.254.49

Your user name will be provided by IT. Make sure to remove the check from Always ask for credentials.

You will want to click the Save As… button to create a shortcut for future use.

After, click Connect.

Remote Desktop Options
Microsoft’s Remote Desktop client includes a number of options to adjust your display, performance and remote access to local devices. The primary two to check are on the Display tab.


If you would like to make use of multiple monitors inside the Remote Desktop, be sure to check Use all of my monitors for the remote session. Otherwise the VM will be limited to a single screen.

Also, if you’d like to use the remote desktop in a window – and not let it take over a Full Screen, use the slider to adjust appropriately. If you’re using Open Dental or Central Manager, be sure not to go lower than 1280 by 768 pixels.

Any changes you make here, be sure to go back to the General tab and Save before connecting.
